LG has what could potentially be a whole new line of smartphones up its sleeve, just in time for MWC 2013.

The company posted a teaser image of a present wrapped in a bow on its Facebook page, along with the tagline "New series will be unveiled".

"See what surprise LG has in store for you this time, with an unexpected distinction," reads the picture credit.

A European Optimus G Pro?

So what could it be? Unlike HTC, there’s been no news of what LG could have in store. But Mobile World Congress just around the corner, LG is bound to have something big ready and waiting.

The tagline suggests a whole new range of smartphones, instead of just one or two.

The LG Optimus G Pro, spotted previously, is a beefed-up version of the Optimus G, but LG has said it won’t launch outside Japan.

It’s a shame, as the G Pro packs a 5-inch screen and 1.7GHz quad-core processor – which might not be quite as much grunt as some handsets set to be unveiled, but is still no slouch.

Mobile World Congress is scheduled to kick off on February 24, so we’ve not long to wait. What do you think LG will unveil? Let us know in the comments.

Nokia has updated its Music app for Lumia phones with a new premium subscription option it is calling Music+.

For just €3.99/$3.99 a month, users of the existing Nokia Music streaming service can upgrade to Music+, which gives them unlimited skips in the Mix Radio portion and unlimited downloads for offline playback.

The service also brings in audio at a higher quality and karaoke-style lyric sheets for the song users are currently listening to.

Users will also be able to stream music from a web browser, making Music+ a suitable Spotify alternative on both desktop and mobile.

Mix Radio stays in tact

Non-premium subscribers will still be able to access the 17m tracks already available through Mix Radio, which brings over 150 specially curated playlists and the opportunity for users to create custom playlists from the library.

Jyrki Rosenberg, VP Entertainment at Nokia, told the Nokia conversation blog: "It’s the only smartphone music service out there offering access to millions of songs out of the box without the need to sign up, sign in, or suffer adverts in between enjoying the music.

"When you add in the ability to skip songs and save playlists for offline uses like the tube, you have something unique.

"This is for people who care enough about music to pay something for more quality and choice, but don’t want to pay €9.99 monthly."

The new Music+ app will roll out in the next couple of weeks throughout the US and European territories.

The Windows Phone 7.8 update for Nokia Lumia phones has been leaked this weekend ahead of its expected release early next year.

The update, which brings some of the features present on the higher-powered Windows Phone 8 software, has become unofficially available through the Navifirm site.

Owners of the Nokia Lumia 900, Lumia 800, Lumia 710, Lumia 610 and Lumia 510 can upgrade from Windows Phone 7.5, if they’re comfortable going through the unofficial portals.

Those who have already ‘flashed’ the device and upgraded to 7.8 are experiencing features like Live Tiles of varying sizes and the ability to make Google the default search engine within the IE app.

Smooth transition

The last official word we heard from Microsoft came on Nov. 28 when it claimed it was working hard to roll out the update, but it wouldn’t be until the first few months of next year.

"We know you’re eager to get the Windows Phone 7.8 update, and we want you to know that we’re working closely with our hardware and carrier partners to get it tested, approved, and rolled out to as many devices as possible in early 2013," the company said.

"As we work to quickly get this in the hands of our loyal users, we’re also striving to deliver a high-quality release and ensure a smooth transition for our widely expanded services."

Windows Phone 7.8 was announced back in June in the hope of bridging the gap for existing handsets that were not eligible for an upgrade to Windows Phone 8.

Autotune specialist turned Intel advocate Will.i.am has revealed his latest foray into the world of technology: the i.am+ iPhone accessory range.

Not to be confused with the similarly-named cat food, the i.am+ range starts at £199 in the UK and the Black Eyed Pea’s "fashionable" phone cases will beef up the iPhone’s measly 8MP camera with interchangeable lenses and a more serious flash.

As rumoured last week, Will.i.am says the clip-on case transforms the 8MP camera lens into a 14MP one.

Saying that this means the cases make "your smartphone into a genius-phone" is a lofty claim and we’re not entirely sure it’s warranted – but whatever, it’s Will.i.am, he says what he likes.

The cases come with software too, which offer filters and integration with apps like Instagram, plus there’s an online www.i.am/username profile for every i.am+ user.

As if all that wasn’t enough, Will.i.am has also seen fit to include a slide-out QWERTY keyboard in the pricier white V4 model.

The fairly understated i.am+ C4 Modern Look will go on sale in Selfridges for £199 (above), while the blinged-out white V4 edition with gold trim and a so-called ‘Vintage Look’ will set you back £299.
